Dharma Guardian

  • Dharma Guardian is a bilateral military exercise between the Indian Army and Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces.
  • The first Dharma Guardian Exercise was conducted in 2018 and has since been conducted annually.
  • The exercise covers a vast spectrum from cross training & combat conditioning in field conditions.
  • Its aim to provide an unique opportunity of achieving synergy between Armed Forces of both the Nations and strengthening the timeless bonds of India – Japan friendship.
  • The exercise also provided a platform for professional and cultural learning which is aimed towards co-existence as one in the Indo-Pacific Region.
  • The 4th edition of this exercise is to be conducted at Camp Imazu in Shiga province, Japan from 17 February to 02 March 2023.
  • Troops of the Garhwal Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army and an Infantry Regiment from the Middle Army of the Japan Ground Self Defence Force (JGSDF) are participating in the exercise this year.

  • JIMEX: India – Japan Maritime Bilateral Exercise, JIMEX, between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF).
  • Malabar Exercise: Malabar is a multilateral war-gaming naval exercise between the Navies of India, the United States, Japan, and Australia.
  • Exercise MILAN: MILAN is a biennial multilateral naval exercise incepted by Indian Navy in 1995 at Andaman and Nicobar Command.
