TROPEX-25

Context:

The Indian Navy’s biennial Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX-25) is underway in the Indian Ocean Region. It focuses on testing combat readiness, joint operations, and maritime security against conventional and asymmetric threats.

Key Highlights:

Large-scale Military Exercise:

  • TROPEX-25 spans three months (Jan–Mar 2025), involving all Indian Naval units, the Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
  • It integrates cyber warfare, electronic warfare, live weapon firings, and amphibious operations.

Massive Naval Deployment:

  • Features 65 warships, 9 submarines, and 80+ aircraft operating in complex maritime scenarios.
  • Key assets include INS Vikrant, Visakhapatnam & Kolkata-class destroyers, Kalvari-class submarines, and MiG-29K jets.

Joint Operations with Army & Air Force:

  • Indian Air Force contributes Sukhoi-30, Jaguar, C-130, AWACS, and refuelling aircraft.
  • The Army deploys an Infantry Brigade with 600+ troops, while the Coast Guard fields 10+ ships and aircraft.

Enhancing combat effectiveness:

  • The exercise refines interoperability, forward-deployed sustenance, and precision targeting.
