What is SDP?

  • SDP’s (Special digital platforms) are those online platforms that are designed for a specific niche market or purpose.
  • The features of SDP:
    • They cater to a particular audience or industry needs, unlike general social media sites.
    • They mostly attend to a particular demographic or groups with specialised interests or needs.
    • These SDP’s can be either built to a particular industry sector, like finance, healthcare, or legal services, depending on the essentials of the targeted audience.

They also feature specialised tools, like advanced search filters, community forums, or specialised content creation tools, etc.

  • Examples of special digital platforms:
    • Udemy (focused on online learning with specific course categories)
    •  Zocdoc (patient appointment booking and medical information)
    • Robinhood (stock trading for retail investors)
    • Deviantart (digital art sharing), Behance (portfolio showcase for designers)
