Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)
- Small Satellite Launch Vehicle is a three-stage all solid fuelled launch vehicle manufactured by the commercial arm of ISRO i.e., NSIL (New Space India Limited).
- It has the capability to launch a satellite with a mass up to 500 kg into 500 km low earth orbit (LEO) and 300 kg to Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).
- Weighing around 110 tons, it holds the distinction of being ISRO’s lightest launch vehicle.
- The second development flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle will commence on Friday (10-02-23) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre-SHAR, Sriharikota.
- The main advantages of SSLV are its low cost, with low turn-around time, flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites, launch on demand feasibility, minimal launch infrastructure requirements, etc
The Satellites being launched
EOS-07:
- The EOS-07 is a 156.3-kg satellite designed, developed and manufactured by the ISRO with a mission to design and develop payload instruments compatible with micro satellite bus and technologies that are required for future operational satellites.
Janus-1:
- Janus-1 is a technology demonstrator, smart satellite mission based on the U.S.-based firm Antaris’s software platform and it weighs around 10.2 kg.
AzaadiSAT-2:
- AzaadiSAT-2 is a satellite weighing 8.7 kg and is the combined effort of about 750 girl students across India guided by the Chennai-based space start-up Space Kidz.
