PM-KUSUM
- The scheme was launched by the Ministry of New and, Renewable Energy (MNRE) in 2019.
- PM-KUSUM aims at furthering the production of solar power in India and also gives the benefits of solar farming to farmers.
- This is to be achieved by rising decentralised solar power production up to 28,250 MW which would provide additional income to farmers.
- The additional income was to be generated through the sale of additional power generated by the solar plants back to the grid.
- The farmers were eligible to avail a subsidy of 60% through direct benefit transfer (DBT) for buying solar pumps.
- 30 % of the remaining amount was to be given as a loan to the farmers which meant only 10% of the amount will have to be borne by the farmers.
- Under the scheme 30.8 GW of solar capacity was to be built up by December 31, 2022 which has now been pushed to March 2026.
Parts of PM-KUSUM
PM KUSUM consists of 3 parts which are;
- Part-A: 10,000 MW of decentralised ground-mounted grid-connected renewable power plants installed by farmers.
- Part-B: Installation of two million standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps which aren’t connected to the grid.
- Part-C: Converting 1.5 million grid-connected agriculture pumps into solar powered.
Success of the Project
- As of December 31, 2022, only 88.46 MW of solar capacity had been added and 181,058 solar pumps had been installed along with conversion of 1,174 grid-connected pumps.
