Black Box

  • Officially called the Flight Data Recorder, the Black Box is an instrument which records all the activities in an aeroplane during its flight.
  • An Australian scientist named David Warren was the first person to build an FDR/CVR prototype in 1958.
  • An aeroplane generally contains two black boxes which are kept at the front and backside of the aeroplane.
  • These record the information about a flight and help in reconstructing the events in case of an aircraft crash.
  • They do not have the ability to prevent an aircraft crash nor can they help to protect the passengers in the event of a crash.

Mirage 2000

  • Mirage 2000 is a multirole, single-engine, fourth-generation jet fighter designed and manufactured by the French company Dassault Aviation.
  • It was inducted in operational service by the French Air Force in 1984 and currently more than 500 Mirage 2000 operational in the world.
  • Mirage 2000s have been used by 8 countries namely France, Brazil, UAE, Egypt, Greece, India, Peru and Qatar.
  • They have a maximum take-off weight of 38,500 lbs or 17463 kgs, with a maximum speed of Mach 2.2.
  • Dassault Aviation is the manufacturers of Dassault Rafale.

Sukhoi Su-30MKI

  • Su-30MKI is an all-weather, long-range, twinjet multirole air superiority fighter developed by Russia’s JSC Sukhoi Company.
  • It has been built under licence by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
  • Su-30MKI was accepted into the Indian Air Force in 2002, while the first India made Su-30MKI entered service with the IAF in 2004.
  • Su-30MKI is considered more advanced than the baseline Su-30 and features state of the art avionics developed by Russia, India and Israel for display, navigation, targeting and electronic warfare.
  • The IAF is the largest operator of the Su-30 variant with around 262-aircraft in service.
