Recently, 11th April was observed as the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. He was a great pioneer of social reform and education in India.
About Mahatma Jyotiba Phule:
- Born in 1827 in Satara district, Maharashtra.
- He was a social reformer who fought against untouchability and caste-based discrimination and worked for womenβs education and social justice.
- Along with his wife, Savitribai Phule, he established the first school for girls in 1848 in Pune.
- Founded Satya Shodhak Samaj in 1873 to promote equality and challenge Brahmanical dominance.
- Authored works like βGulamgiriβ and βSarvajaneek Satyadharma.β
- He was conferred the title of βMahatmaβ in 1888.
