INS SUNAYNA
Context:
INS Sunayna paid a visit to Mombasa, Kenya, with the aim of strengthening bilateral ties with maritime neighbors. The visit was centered around the theme of Ocean Ring of Yoga, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being and harmony. INS SUNAYNA:
- INS SUNAYNA is an Offshore Patrol Vessel from the Saryu class.
- It was commissioned at Kochi and operates under the Southern Naval Command.
- Its primary purpose is to support fleet operations, conduct coastal and offshore patrolling, perform ocean surveillance, monitor Sea Lines of Communications, safeguard offshore assets, and carry out escort duties.
- The vessel is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 25 knots.
- It is equipped with an automatic power management system to optimize its performance.
- INS SUNAYNA features advanced Navigation, Communication, and Electronic Support Systems to facilitate its missions.
- Alongside INS SUNAYNA, the Sarayu class also includes other notable vessels like INS Sumitra and INS Sumedha.
About Passage Exercise (PASSEX)
- The Indian Navy and Kenyan Navy recently engaged in a Maritime Partnership Exercise known as PASSEX. This exercise encompassed various activities such as Firefighting & Damage Control drills, boarding exercises, simulations of asymmetric threats, and VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure) operations conducted during the harbor phase.
- A Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capsule was carried out onboard to enhance the capabilities of the Kenya Navy in responding to emergencies and providing aid during disasters.
