INS Sindhukesari

INS Sindhukesari is a 3,000-tonne diesel-electric submarine of the Indian Navy belonging to the Sindhughosh-class.
INS Sindhukesari has become the first Indian Submarine to dock in Indonesia after travelling through the Sunda Strait.
It has been docked in Jakarta, Indonesia for Operational Turnaround (OTR) from February 22 to 24.

Sindhughosh-class submarines are built under a contract between Russian company, Rosvooruzhenie and the Ministry of Defence (India).
These are similar to the Kilo-class in Russian Navy and are diesel-electric submarines in active service with the Indian Navy.
They have a top speed of 18 knots, displacement of 3,000 tonnes, a maximum diving depth of 300 meters, and are able to operate solo for 45 days with a crew of 53.
They were commissioned in 1986 and have been undergoing refit and in order to extend their operational life by 35 years.
A total of 7 submarines in the Sindhughosh-class are currently active in the Indian navy.
INS Sindhuvir of the Sindhughosh-class was given to the Myanmar Navy by India in 2020 after refitting by Hindustan Shipyard.
This ship was renamed by the Myanmar navy as UMS Minye Theinkhathu.
It is Myanmar navy’s first and, as of 2021, only serving submarine.
