INS Sandhayak

Context:

INS Sandhayak, also known as Yard 3025, marked its commissioning into the Indian Navy on February 3, 2024, at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, in the presence of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh.

Details:

  • INS Sandhayak, serves as the first Survey Vessel Large (SVL) ship.
  • The primary role of the vessels would be to conduct coastal and deep-water hydro-graphic survey of ports, navigational channels, Exclusive Economic Zones and collection of oceanographic data for defence. Their secondary role would be to perform search & rescue, ocean research and function as hospital ships for casualties
  • The commissioning of INS Sandhayak bolsters India’s stature as a key player in the Indo-Pacific region and reinforces the Indian Navy’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the maritime domain.
