Inauguration of Weapon Systems School (WSS) in Hyderabad
Context:
The Chief of the Air Staff inaugurated the Weapon Systems School (WSS) at Begumpet, Hyderabad.

- The Weapon Systems (WS) branch, a new cadre within the Indian Air Force (IAF), was approved in 2022.
- This branch aims to recalibrate and transform the IAF into a future-oriented force. The formation of the WSS represents a significant leap for the Armed Forces, particularly the IAF.
Objectives and Functions:
- Effect-Based Training: The WSS will provide contemporary, effect-based training to officers of the newly formed branch, aligning with the IAF’s operational requirements.
- Streams within WS Branch:
- Flying Stream: Operates weapons and systems on airborne platforms like the Sukhoi-30 MKI and C-130J.
- Remote Stream: Operates Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA).
- Surface-Based Systems: Includes Mission Commanders and operators for Surface-to-Air and Surface-to-Surface weapon systems.
- Intelligence Stream: Manages space-based intelligence and imagery.
