First-Ever Export of Anthurium Flowers from Mizoram to Singapore

Context:

Recently, India for the first time exported Anthurium flowers from Mizoram to Singapore.

  • The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Mizoram Department of Horticulture, facilitated this export, enhancing the floriculture potential of the North Eastern Region (NER).

Key Highlights:

  • The consignment included 1,024 Anthurium flowers (70 kg) packed in 50 boxes, exported by IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd. from Aizawl, Mizoram, via Kolkata to Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd.
  • Anthurium cultivation in Mizoram supports local farmers, particularly women, and boosts economic activity. The state also hosts the Anthurium Festival, promoting tourism and floriculture.
  • The export follows the International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) held in December 2024, where nine international buyers from Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Jordan, Oman, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Ethiopia explored trade opportunities.
  • India’s floriculture exports stood at USD 86.62 million in FY 2023-24, and this development strengthens the NER’s role in global floriculture trade.
