  • The famous Tal Chhapar blackbuck sanctuary has received a protective cover against a proposed move of the State government to reduce the size of its eco­sensitive zone.

Where is it located?

  • Churu District, Rajasthan

About the Sanctuary:

  • The Tal Chhapar Sanctuary is a sanctuary that may be found in Northwestern Rajasthan, Shekhawati area of India, in the Churu district. It is famous for its blackbucks and is also a haven for numerous bird species.
  • The sanctuary is located on the route between Ratangarh and Sujangarh, near the edge of the Great Indian Desert.
  • The Churu District’s Sujangarh Tehsil is where the Tal Chhapar sanctuary is located.

Flora and Fauna

  • There are very few trees in the sanctuary area, which is largely covered by grasses. It is located on a major migration route for migrating birds like harriers. In September, these birds travel through this region.
  • Harriers, eastern imperial eagles, tawny eagles, short-toed eagles, sparrows, small green bee-eaters, black ibis, and demoiselle cranes which stay until March are among the birds that are frequently spotted in the sanctuary.
  • All throughout the year, you can see ring doves, brown doves, skylarks, and crested larks. Along with common avifauna like partridge and sand grouse, it’s possible to see desert fox and wildcat.
