EXERCISE EASTERN BRIDGE -VI

 

Context:

 

  • The Indo-Oman exercise, Eastern Bridge-VI (2022) was successfully conducted at Air Force Station Jodhpur from 21 to 25 February 2022.
  • Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) participated with Indian Air Force (lAF) in the exercise which was aimed at providing operational exposure and undertaking mutual exchange of best practices, towards enhancing operational capabilities of both the Air Forces.

 

About:

 

  • Senior officers from both sides who visited Air Force Station Jodhpur during this exercise included RAFO’s Director General Operations and IAF South Western Air Command’s Senior Air Staff Officer.
  • They discussed further prospects of mutual co-operation.
  • The exercise provided an opportunity for fruitful interaction between IAF and RAFO elements through mutual exchange of experience and operational knowledge. It also provided avenues of cultural exchanges between the personnel of both countries.

 

Indo – Oman Relations:

 

  • India and Oman are linked by geography, history and culture and enjoy warm and cordial relations.
  • While people-to-people contact between India and Oman can be traced back 5000 years, diplomatic relations were established in 1955 and the relationship was upgraded to Strategic partnership in 2008.
  • The Sultanate of Oman is a strategic partner of India in the Gulf and an important interlocutor at the Gulf Cooperation Council (AGCC), Arab League and Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) fora.
  • Oman also accords a high priority to its ties with India.
  • The two countries across the Arabian Sea are linked by geography, history and culture and enjoy warm and cordial relations, which are attributed to historical maritime trade linkages, intimacy of the royal family with India and the seminal role played by the Indian expatriate community in building of Oman, which is acknowledged by Omani Government.
