#GS3 #Environment #TigerReserves

Shivalik forest is located at the foothills of Shivalik range in Uttar pradesh which connects 4 states of the country-Himachal pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Uttar pradesh. This proposal will facilitate safe movement of Tigers and reduce the man animal conflict in the area.

Tiger reserve:

  • A Tiger Reserve consists of a ‘Core’ or ‘Critical Tiger Habitat’, which is to be managed as an inviolate area, and a ‘Buffer’ or Peripheral area immediately abutting a Core area, which may be accorded a lesser degree of habitat protection.
  • The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is a statutory body formed in 2005-06, with an overarching supervisory/coordination role, performing functions as provided in the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
  • There are already three tigers reserves in Uttar pradesh- Amangarh reserve in Bijnor, Pilibhit and Dudhwa in Lakhimpur-kheri and if this proposal is accepted then this will become the 4th tiger reserve in Uttar pradesh.
